Construction Works?
Construction Works is a contemporary dark comedy about a woman desperate for peace who moves to a quiet village, only to be met with constant drilling, dust, and dysfunction, as the universe seems hellbent on renovating everything but her sanity, an instead offers jackhammers.
Project Statement – Construction Works
My multidisciplinary practice combines physical theatre and contemporary performance to explore how social, urban, and environmental conditions shape the body and our sense of belonging. I am particularly interested in the relationship between personal well-being and collective structures, and how artistic processes can open spaces for reflection, resilience, and shared experience.
Construction Works is a dark comedic performance that follows a woman who migrates in search of a place to root herself, create, and live with dignity. Instead, she encounters continuous instability—noise, displacement, and unhealthy living conditions—that gradually affect her physical and emotional state. Through movement, repetition, and humor, the piece examines how systemic neglect and urban transformation impact individual lives, especially those navigating precarity and integration.
The project engages directly with questions of access to safe living spaces, mental and physical health, and the challenges of building a life in a constantly shifting city. In this sense, it seeks to resonate with broader social realities while maintaining a poetic and embodied language.
