Contemporary Theatre · Dark Comedy · In Development
She moves to a quiet village in search of peace. The village has other plans.
Construction Works is a contemporary dark comedy about a woman desperate for peace who moves to a quiet village, only to be met with constant drilling, dust, and dysfunction, as the universe seems hellbent on renovating everything but her sanity, an instead offers jackhammers.
The Play
What begins as a retreat into village life becomes an escalating confrontation with noise, dust, neighbours, interruptions and the absurd machinery of everyday existence.
The more desperately she tries to create stillness, the louder the world seems determined to become.
At its centre
Sometimes the universe does not send a sign. It sends a jackhammer.
The World
Drilling, hammering and machinery become an accidental soundtrack to collapse.
The harder she tries to manage her environment, the less manageable it becomes.
Village life reveals itself to be considerably less serene than advertised.
A woman attempts to protect the one thing nobody appears interested in renovating.
